Pressure points are neat, tap a guy on the right spot an bring him to his knees or cause a knockout. Pressure points are neat, tap a guy on the right spot an bring him to his knees or cause a knockout. However, trying to hit 6 dime-sized “setup points” on an attacker under the real pressure of a real attack may be quite difficult.

Steering away from traditional kyusho points, this video looks at what pressure points actually are. Then it breaks down some of the best spots to attack – even if you are untrained and simply trying to defend yourself.

Let’s be clear, I don’t want to take anything away from the legitimate study of pressure points in self defense. However, like other mystical endeavors, there are charlatans out there. I’m not going to address them at this time, but merely give you useful information for self defense.

zombie apocalypse self defense weaponAs a zombie fan, and a fan of The Walking Dead series on AMC, I wanted to do a kind of fun piece on zombie self defense. In a recent episode of the show, two of the main characters discussed the use of knives instead of firearms to fight off the zombie horde.

In this video I talk about my choice for a SHTF tool (providing I could choose just one). You have to watch the video to see what I would choose.

Of course, this is just my opinion, but I think the mental exercise is useful in analyzing the characteristics of various implements.

Naturally firearms are a great choice for a number of reasons – they are powerful lethal weapons that can strike at a distance. However, they require ammo and are prone to failing if not kept clean and well maintained.

Therefore, I would choose a melee weapon, one that was easy to carry and use and not prone to failure. I would choose a proven tool that was combat effective. A plus would be if it had utility value as well.
